Phases of our Design Process
A Conversation:
It’s very important that I get to know you! It’s not just about the job, it’s about working together, the relationship we can develop, and how I can tailor the experience to meet your needs. Not only am I an Interior Designer, I am also a spiritual coach and so having a holistic approach takes into account so much more beyond the changes we want to carry out. Getting to know you, your spouse, and children and hearing why this project is important to you makes our journey so much more meaningful. l will ask you about your vision, preferred style, specific needs, timelines, budget constraints, etc. You determine my involvement in the project (refer to services tab), which stages you are willing to manage (if any), and whether you require, for example, 3D modeling. At the end of this phase, we will submit an initial proposal to you.
Design brief
We will gather inspirational imagery (stock photos, samples of materials, inspirational images, items of personal significance, etc.) to help us visualize the general design and feel. This can be collected on a Canva presentation, Pinterest board, or Google Doc. We will outline the various rooms to be included as part of the design and point out special features desired to be developed in the next stage.
Conceptual Design:
In this stage, we will show room by room what our specific design will look like. This step includes more specific imagery and a list of furniture, types of tile, wall applications, textures, and color palettes, that we want each room to have. *Some projects may or may not require this step.
Measuring
Depending on the type of service you selected, we will take measurements or you will send them to us. This includes all wall dimensions, windows, ceilings, and important light fixtures. Location of the project in relation to cardinal points. Videos of the space including everything that is floor level and ceiling structure.
Functional layouts
Based on the measurements taken and the needs of every room we will decide what structural changes need to be made (i.e. demolishing/creating a wall/window, modifying electrical supply lines, changing plumbing, etc.) We will create furniture layouts, lighting plans (if needed), accessory layouts, etc. We will either work simultaneously with contractors to make sure our design plans are carried out correctly.
Visual models and imagery
If you want to see your project in 3D this is the step where we will render models using SketchUp. You will see 3D Renderings, Video Animations, and 2D MarkUp Documents where we lay out all the specifications of your project.
Construction, Sourcing and Purchasing
We will work with our preferred contractors or find all the necessary craftspeople, and companies that can do the work we need for our design. Work will begin and once the heavy lifting is complete, we will source all furniture and accessories. Depending on the type of service you selected we will buy everything for you per your specification, or we will tell you what to buy via shared Excel Lists.
Installation
Once everything has been purchased, we will take care of setting up everything (i.e installing shades, TVs, light fixtures, wallpaper, etc.) or you can use your preferred handyman.
Finishing touches
We will add plants, art, memorabilia, candles, lamps, extra pillows, fill soap dispensers, etc. just to make sure your project is extra perfect! Now you can walk in and simply be wowed!
